Technological advances have allowed for the option of prenatal diagnosis for an increasing number of genetic conditions and birth defects. The services provided by the Division of Reproductive Genetics include: genetic counseling for both pregnant and non-pregnant patients; management of fetal anomalies; chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and midtrimester genetic amniocentesis; fetal ultrasound and other specialized procedures. Common examples of patients seen in this clinic include women over 35 years of age, abnormal maternal serum screen results, family history of a genetic condition, and fetal anomalies identified by ultrasound; teratogen exposure and individuals identified as carriers of certain genetic conditions.

Veronica Bryksa, MS, CGC.  Ms. Bryksa holds a Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling at Wayne State University and is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counselors. She also obtained a Master of Science degree in Basic Medical Sciences from Wayne State University in 2008.  Currently Ms. Bryksa works as a genetic counselor at the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy at Hutzel Women’s Hospital.  She has also worked in metabolic/neurometabolic genetics at the London Health Sciences Center in London Ontario. Ms. Bryksa is an active member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors and the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors. She is happy to be able to participate in the clinical training of various students.

 

Kristen Rauch, MS, CGC. Ms. Rauch is a genetic counselor at the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy at Hutzel Women’s Hospital, providing clinical supervision for students during their prenatal rotations. Ms. Rauch received her Master of Science in Human Genetics from the University of Michigan. Prior to her position at Hutzel Hospital, Ms. Rauch worked in pediatric and prenatal genetic counseling at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, MI. In addition to her clinical work, Ms. Rauch has worked with the Michigan Association of Genetic Counselors on genetic counselor licensure efforts in Michigan.
