Travis graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2013 with a BS in Biology. During his time at SVSU, he was awarded a research grant from the Student Research and Creativity Institute to determine genetic markers for Tiger Swallowtail butterflies using DNA fingerprinting. He gained advocacy experience through working with adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities and volunteering as a sexual assault victim advocate. Travis gained interest in genetic counseling through a number of job shadowing experiences and a volunteer experience with a cancer genetic counselor at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. As a volunteer at the cancer clinic, he assisted the genetic counselor with case preparation, literature reviews, and setting up patients’ appointments. In his free time, Travis enjoys a hot cup of tea and a good book or video game. He also loves to travel and visit with family and friends.
